Elevating ER #7: Creating an Insight-Driven Workplace

TL;DR: Hear HR Acuity’s CEO and Founder, Deb Muller, on how to tap into data to create a better workplace for your people. Collect consistent behavioral data, then study the stories it tells. When ER teams pair the “science” of technology-driven metrics with the “art” of interpretation, they uncover which managers boost performance, where training is needed and how positive experiences turn employees into brand ambassadors.

[0:00] Employee relations can help you create an insight-driven workplace. To understand that, think of it as the meshing of science and art. First you need the science—you need the data—so you need a way to consistently gather data about employee behaviors in your workplace, and that’s where technology comes into play (I’ve covered that in other parts of this video series).

[0:30] Then you have to look at that data together to understand the art: What stories is the data telling you? We’ve already heard plenty about what went wrong with #MeToo over the past two years, so let’s consider the good stories this data can reveal. Imagine if you could identify the managers who properly document and give good feedback to their employees—and see how that correlates to better productivity or business success—versus those managers who don’t. Or if you could spot where more training is needed so employees can develop and succeed.

[1:00] Finally, good experiences for your employees turn them into brand ambassadors in the external marketplace. That’s the power of data-driven employee behavioral insights.
