Deb Muller:
Hey Rebecca, how are you?

00:00:11.679
Rebecca Trotsky:
Hey Deb, I’m good. How are you?

00:00:13.480
Deb Muller:
Good. Time for Two Minute Matters. You ready to start the clock?

00:00:14.920
Rebecca Trotsky:
Excited.

00:00:15.759
Deb Muller:
You want me to start it?

00:00:17.320
Rebecca Trotsky:
Yeah, let’s go.

00:00:20.400
Deb Muller:
Okay, go. Alright, so you may not know this—I think I mentioned it to you—but I was asked by the board of HRCI, which is the Human Resource Capital Institute (many of you get your accreditations there), to meet with them and just do some generative thinking talking about employee relations.

00:00:31.039
Deb Muller:
I’m so excited that they’re understanding and seeing employee relations as a new function, a new category that requires consideration. They really are going to put this at the top of their agenda.

00:00:48.280
Deb Muller:
As I was thinking about it, learning more and thinking about my discussion with them, I wanted to ask our ER pros out there—the leaders that have their PHR or SHRM-CP—what do they want more of? What could they have used more? What kind of learning or development could HRCI, which is really the renowned institute for HR, be providing to the community?

00:01:12.080
Rebecca Trotsky:
Oh, that is such a great opportunity. It’s very exciting.

00:01:13.600
Rebecca Trotsky:
Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what we hear. I suspect that a lot of focus is obviously on things like investigations, handling very specific issues within the realm of ER.

00:01:29.600
Rebecca Trotsky:
And it’ll be curious to get feedback from people because I feel like there’s an opportunity for us to connect what we do much more closely to things that we think of as strategic, like employee relations or diversity, equity and inclusion.

00:01:42.479
Rebecca Trotsky:
But ER touches so many parts of HR that it feels foundational. It feels like the kind of thing that needs a lot more bolstering in terms of education and how we talk about it. So this is a great opportunity.

00:01:55.880
Rebecca Trotsky:
Particularly now because the workforce is so different than it was, certainly when I went to school or when I was raised in HR and doing ER. So I’m really excited about the conversation.

00:02:05.079
Rebecca Trotsky:
I’m so thankful for them for reaching out.

00:02:07.079
Rebecca Trotsky:
And so if you have ideas or thoughts on your own training or what you need, put them in the comments, send me a DM because I want to include that and make sure all of your voices are heard when I have this opportunity. What a great chance to do this.

00:02:18.400
Deb Muller:
I love it. And that’s exactly two minutes. We’re getting good at this.

00:02:22.239
Rebecca Trotsky:
Alright, so… goodbye.
